Chapter 1 System Overview

The Agilent Bravo Automated Liquid Handling System is a precision robotic platform designed for high-throughput liquid handling applications. This guide provides operational instructions and best practices for the system located in the Metabolomics Platform.

1.1 Hardware Components

1.1.1 Robotic Deck: Stainless steel deck with 8 fixed positions for labware placement shown as image below

1.1.2 Pipetting Arm: 96-channel precision liquid handling head with adjustable tip spacing

1.1.3 Integrated Modules:

  • Cooling devices for temperature-controlled workflows

  • Shaking devices for mixing and incubation steps

  • Vacuum filtration station

  • Capacitive liquid level detection

1.2 Software Control: VWorks Automation Control

The system is controlled through \(VWorks\) Automation Control Software, which enables protocol design, execution, and monitoring.

1.3 Key Features

– Graphical Protocol Development: Drag-and-drop icons listed in the left side bar for creating liquid handling workflows

  • Form-based Interface: Custom interactive forms for simplified protocol execution

  • Scripting Capability: JavaScript integration for custom functionality within protocol steps

  • Device Integration: Seamless control of deck modules (cooling, shaking, etc.)
